So thanks to my iPhone breaking I have many un-returned calls and zero pictures from any weddings in April. Bummer. Pics will be back in May!
Maybe you don’t want to get married in a church or by a pastor. Thanks to a couple of local companies, you don’t have to.

Lots of Weddings for Christmas!
It has been a busy December with lots of weddings for Christmas and just in time for the new year! Make sure to give me a call if you would like to say your vows before Jan 1st!
Interview with 417 Bride
Hello all, make sure to check out the Winter edition of 417 Bride for an interview with Magick Weddings!
Holy Cow!
So I have been really remiss in getting my fall wedding pictures up so in return I have something to share with you…
I see a lot of weddings. Not only the ones that I help plan and perform, but I often end up at other weddings helping friends in the industry so again, I see a LOT of weddings. I’ve seen brides do some really cool things that made their wedding eventful, memorable and unique the them but this…this takes some BIG wedding cake.
Her name is Sam and she is a Catholic music director and goodness…I got the chills watching that video. I think that moment, the look on the faces of her guests, is exactly what ever bride hopes her ceremony will be.

The non-ceremony wedding
There seems to be a trend cropping up in weddings this year that I am calling the non-ceremony wedding. This isn’t about eloping or just “deciding” to get married and finding the closest place to do it, but I believe it is more about saving money on a wedding by not having the big elaborate ceremony. These are not people that haven’t put a lot of thought into their ceremony, or people that are trying to run away and get married. They simply can’t or won’t pay for a large elaborate affair but still want something awesome. I have been seeing a lot of these couples this year.
There are a lot of great places around Springfield where you can have a low-cost wedding and not end up doing it at the court house (which I have it on good authority that Springfield Justices of the Peace will not marry people anymore). I have no problem meeting you out about town so that you can have a cheap-n-easy wedding and spend your money on more important things, like cake.
I usually charge $50 for this service and I have done weddings at parks, caves, Bass Pro, Sushi restaurants, your house or my home office.
One of these great places around town is now right in my back yard. For a lovely place to have your wedding right in the middle of the city:
The use of the Courtyard Garden is free to couples that are just wanting a quick ceremony with a few witnesses. If you would like to use the Garden for your wedding we can seat 20 guests for a lovely wedding by the Koi Pond. Please send an email to tiffany@magickweddings.com to discuss the details.
Contact me if you would like more information or to come see the Garden for yourself.
Very busy = no updates
I know I have been very bad at updating my blog this summer but I have been SO BUSY! Not that I am complaining! I am also working on something really new and cool for Magick Weddings, so stay posted and I’ll give you some good stuff soon.
So, since I don’t have anything right now here is a neat article by Mint: Cutting Wedding Cake Costs (Without Sacrificing Quality)
Weddings Everywhere!
I do a lot of “same-day” elope type weddings which usually take place in a park, a back yard or even my living room but today I married a couple in the Bass Pro Shops building in a quick ceremony by the waterfall. Very cute couple. Congrats to you!
Quiet Winter
I know its been months since a posting but for the most part winters are pretty quiet. However, I did have something interesting happen the other day. A couple, who is all set up to get married in May, called to ask if I could marry them early so they could overcome some insurance problems. I was happy to oblige. I can’t say who because it was a “super secret” kind of thing but I am mentioning it because it is becoming a more common occurrence.
Some couple opt for two ceremonies because of family reasons. Earlier this year I had a couple have a small wedding in a cave and then the bigger ceremony for everyone a few days later. Some people are getting married months in advance of their actual wedding dates because of insurance/money related issues or because they can’t afford the ceremony they really want and can’t wait to be married.
In the case of two ceremonies I usually don’t charge for the second unless we have to do a lot of extra planning or travel. This is a nice way to have your “intimate” ceremony with your loved ones the way you want it if you are being forced to cave to other pressures.
Note from the Otecs
I LOVE sharing emails from my couples!
Rev Archer,
We want to thank you so very much for making our ceremony so wonderful! We are so glad that we chose you to officiate at our wedding and can’t even imagine having had anyone else marrying us. The ceremony and prayers were perfect! We will highly recommend you to anyone in need of a minister for their wedding.
Thanks again
Kenny and Suzanne Otec
